N.C.-Wilmington 58, Marshall 57
WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP)—John Goldsberry scored 11 points as North Carolina-Wilmington hung on at the buzzer to beat Marshall 58-57 on Friday.
Freshman Vladimir Kuljanin deflected a pass with a second on the clock to preserve the win for the Seahawks.
Ed Spencer added 10 points and five assists for N.C.-Wilmington (1-0, Colonial Athletic Association).
The Seahawks led by nine at the half, pushed that lead to 11 in the second half but ended up rallying from behind to win in the final minute.
A.W. Hamilton’s steal and layup gave the Herd (0-1) a 57-54 edge with 50 seconds left. Goldsberry then connected on a pair of freethrows with 39 seconds left to close the gap to 57-56. Aaron Coombs deflected a pass to give the Seahawks possession, and Goldsberry converted another pair of freethrows for a 58-57 lead.
Joe Miles led Herd scorers with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range. David Anderson added 14 points and seven rebounds.
