Santa Clara 90, North Carolina A&T 52
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP)—Kyle Bailey scored 15 points and had six assists as Santa Clara beat North Carolina A&T 90-52 at the NABC Classic Sunday.
Santa Clara (2-1) took a 21-6 lead with 6:52 left in the first half and steadily extended the margin against the Aggies (0-3), who last season were 3-25.
Sophomore Sean Booker, the leading freshman scorer last season in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, scored 18 for North Carolina A&T. Booker had 13 of the Aggies first 17 points. Steven Koger scored 14, all in the second half.
North Carolina A&T, which earlier in the three-day round robin lost to New Mexico and Duquesne, put up 27 3-pointers, but hit only four of them. The Aggies were 1-for-13 from 3-point range in the first half.
Santa Clara shot 59.6 percent by consistently getting easy baskets after beating the Aggies’ press. Scott Dougherty added 13 points and Travis Niesen 11 for the Broncos, who finished with 22 assists.
North Carolina A&T hit just 8 of 33 shots in the first half to trail 37-17.
A basket by Scott Borchart with 1:28 left gave Santa Clara its biggest lead of the game at 88-48.
