Villanova 73, Virginia 63
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP)—Allan Ray scored 23 points and Randy Foye added 21 to help Villanova beat Virginia 73-63 in the second round of the NIT on Saturday.
The Wildcats (18-16), making their fifth straight appearance in the NIT, have won four of their last five games and will play the winner of the Rutgers-West Virginia game in the quarterfinals.
Gary Forbes led Virginia (18-13) with 19 points, and Elton Brown scored all 13 of his points in the second half.
Villanova led by as many as 17.
The Cavaliers, who made 13 3-point field goals in their first- round win over George Washington, were only 1-of-10 from long range Saturday and did not make a 3-pointer until Derrick Byars hit one at the 5:15 mark to cut Villanova’s lead to 56-50.
The Cavaliers pulled within four points at 63-59 with 1:30 remaining, but Foye countered with a jumper. Will Sheridan blocked a shot and came up with asteal in the final minute, and Foye was 6-of-8 from the line down the stretch.
Boise St. 73, Wis.-Milwaukee 70
NAMPA, Idaho (AP)—Aaron Haynes had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Coby Karl made two free throws with 13 seconds left to lift Boise State past Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the first round.
Boise State (23-9), which will play Marquette on Tuesday, led by 14 with 12:23 left before Wisconsin-Milwaukee (20-11) ran off 12 straight points to pull to 58-56 with 8:32 remaining.
Dylan Page led Wisconsin-Milwaukee with 23 points.
