Bowling Green 56, Ohio 54
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (AP)—Ron Lewis scored 19 points and blocked two shots in the final seconds to lead Bowling Green to a 56-54 win over Ohio on Monday in the first round of the Mid-American Conference tournament.
After Jaivon Harris missed a 3-pointer with three seconds left for the Bobcats, Lewis blocked a shot by Thomas Stephens with two seconds remaining and then Jeff Halbert’s shot at the buzzer.
All of Lewis’ points came in the second half, including a foul shot with 21 seconds left for the final point of the game. The foul shot came 22 seconds after the Falcons regained the lead 55-54 on John Reimold’s free throw.
Lewis made a three-point play with 3:07 left to cap a 14-3 run and give the Falcons (14-16) their biggest lead of the second half, 53-43. The Bobcats (10-20) then went on a 10-1 run to tie it at 54-54 on a three-point play by Stephens with 48 seconds left.
Reimold and Kevin Netter finished with 11 points apiece for the Falcons, who play second-seeded Kent State in the quarterfinals Thursday in Cleveland. The Golden Flashes had a first-round bye.
Terren Harbut scored 24 points to lead the Bobcats. Stephens had 14.
