UMKC 86, Oral Roberts 73
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Michael Watson scored 30 points, becoming Missouri-Kansas City’s top career scorer, and the Kangaroos beat Oral Roberts 86-73 in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Continent Conference tournament Sunday.
Watson has 2,460 career points—one more than Tony Dumas scored from 1990-94.
Mike English added 10 rebounds and a career-high 21 points for the Kangaroos (15-13), who meet Valparaiso in Monday’s semifinals. Brandon Temple had 18 points, also a career high, for UMKC.
Corey Starks had 11 rebounds as UMKC outrebounded the Golden Eagles 47-33. That advantage on the boards gave the Kangaroos an 18-5 edge in second-chance points .
Ken Tutt and Josh Atkinson led Oral Roberts (17-11) with 20 points each. Tutt was 5-for-6 from 3-point range.
Caleb Green had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Golden eagles.
Both teams spent plenty of time shooting free throws, with 26 fouls called against UMKC and 25 against Oral Roberts.
UMKC was 24-for-32 from the line to Oral Roberts’ 21-for-28.
The Kangaroos led 40-27 at halftime and by as many as 17 points in the second half.
