Towson 70, William & Mary 65
RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Mike Green scored 12 of his 13 points in the final 10:08 Friday and Towson held off William & Mary 70-65 in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.
The Tigers (8-20), who lost 11 of their previous 12 games, will face Va. Commonwealth in the first game on Saturday.
William & Mary finished 7-21 and lost its eighth consecutive game in the CAA tournament.
The Tigers took the lead for good at 53-51 on two Green free throws with 7:15 remaining.
The Tribe pulled to within one point twice, the final time 64-63 with 41.7 seconds left after two Zeb Cope free throws.
After Andrius Petkunas hit two free throws with 35.3 seconds to go, Cope had a turnover and Green hit two free throws to stretch the lead to 68-63.
Jamaal Gilchrist led the Tigers with 32 points, 20 in the second half.
Adam Hess led the Tribe with 23, Corey Cofield added 19, and Cope 13.
