Jacksonville St. 86, Tennessee St. 70
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Trent Eager had his fourth double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds and four others reached double figures, leading Jacksonville State to a 86-70 victory over Tennessee State Saturday night.
Walker Russell scored 15 points and had 10 assists for the Gamecocks (14-13, 7-9). Scott Watson finished with 14 points, while James Denson and Anthony Wilson each added 12.
Tennessee State (7-20, 6-10) held its last lead at 12-10 after Garrett Richardson sank a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 13:49 left in the opening half.
The Gamecocks answered with a 13-point stretch to build a 22-12 lead with 12:05 left.
Jacksonville State entered halftime with a 51-36 advantage and had its largest lead at 21 points, 63-42, on a 3-pointer with 15:07 left.
The Tigers used a 24-8 run to cut the deficit to 68-62 with 7:50 left, but wouldn’t get closer.
The Gamecocks outscored Tennessee State 18-8 in the final six minutes to clinch the win.
Roshaun Bowens led the Tigers with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Richardson added 22. Herley Maclin added 13 points and Bruce Price followed with 10 points.
