Dayton 72, La Salle 58
DAYTON, Ohio (AP)—Monty Scott scored 18 points and Warren Williams added 15 points in his first start to lead Dayton past La Salle 72-58 on Saturday.
Scott hit 6-of-11 shots for the Flyers (21-6, 11-3 Atlantic 10), including a 3-pointer during a 17-2 run that broke a 16-16 tie midway through the first half. The Flyers built the lead to as many as 22 points in the second half.
The victory, coupled with George Washington’s 75-67 loss to Richmond on Saturday, gives the Flyers a one-game lead in the A10 West division with two games remaining in the regular season.
Williams, starting for injured point guard Ramod Marshall, made 4-of-10 shots, had four assists and pulled down five rebounds and had just one turnover in 36 minutes.
The Flyers shot 48 percent from the field to 41 percent for the Explorers (10-17, 5-9) and outscored La Salle 18-4 in fastbreak points.
Steven Smith led La Salle with 27 points. He took 20 of La Salle’s 51 shots, making 11. He was the only player in double figures for La Salle.
Mark Jones scored 14 points for Dayton and Keith Waleskowski scored 10 and had 11 rebounds.
