Temple 74, La Salle 70, OT
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Antywane Robinson sank the go-ahead 3-pointer with 2:52 left in overtime and David Hawkins scored 26 points, giving Temple a 74-70 win over La Salle on Wednesday night.
La Salle (10-16, 5-8 Atlantic 10) scored the first four points of overtime, but allowed seven straight points, including 3-pointers by Robinson and Mardy Collins. Hawkins, who was 9-for-17 from the floor, converted a three-point play with 40 seconds left to put the game away.
The Explorers went 4 minutes without a field goal in overtime and lost their third straight game.
Collins finished with 16 points and Tyreek Byard added 14 for the Owls (13-11, 7-6). The Owls have won six of seven as they fight to finish in the hunt for their third straight NIT berth.
Gary Neal scored 19 points off the bench and Steven Smith and Mike Cleaves each added 15. Cleaves had 10 rebounds and Mike St. John had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Temple rallied from an eight-point defect with less than 3 1/2 minutes left in regulation before getting 3-pointers from Hawkins and Dustin Salisbery, then Mardy Collins hit a 10-footer to tie the score at 59-all.
Neither team scored on their final possessions of regulation.
Neal’s first basket in overtime—a pull-up jumper off a turnover—put him over the 1,000 career point mark.
La Salle led by 12 early in the first half, but Temple closed on a 15-2 run, taking a 28-27 lead on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Collins.
