JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Four Gamecocks scored in double-figures as Jacksonville State notched a 71-51 win over Samford Tuesday night.

Walker Russell tossed in 18 for Jacksonville State (13-13, 6-9 Ohio Valley Conference), followed by Scott Watson and Trent Eager with 15 points. James Denson added 13.

Samford (11-15, 6-9) took its largest lead of the game at 9-4 with 15:41 left after a free throw from Eddie Harper.

But Jacksonville State scored the next nine points to take the lead for good.

The Gamecocks led 28-16 after Denson sank a 3-pointer with 2:34 remaining in the half.

Samford rallied to cut the lead to 41-40 midway through the second half, but the Gamecocks scored the next 12 points to lead 53-40 with 4:43 left.

Samford was led by Phillip Ramelli with 17 points.

Jacksonville State shot 54.2 percent in the second half and sank 14-of-18 from the free throw line in the final 20 minutes.
