MILWAUKEE (AP)—Luis Flores scored 27 points and Peter Mulligan and Dave Holmes 14 apiece Saturday as Manhattan defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee 83-76 in a nonconference game.

Manhattan (21-4) has won eight straight games and 16 of its last 17 contests. Dylan Page scored 25 points and Ed McCants 20 for the Panthers (17-9), who have lost three in a row.

The contest was one of 23 games in ESPN’s Bracket Buster Saturday to feature mid-major teams with a chance of making the NCAA tournament. Both Manhattan and Milwaukee were in the tournament last year.

In the second half, the Jaspers led by double digits most of the way and were up 76-64 with 1:59 left on a free throw by Flores. But the Panthers came back late in the game and Page cut the lead to 79-76 with a jumper with 33 seconds left. Flores then made a pair of free throws with 31.8 seconds remaining and the Jaspers hung on for the win.

Mulligan hit a long 3-pointer at the buzzer to put Manhattan on top 47-35 at halftime. After a basket by Joah Tucker tied the game for the fourth time at 8-8, Manhattan outscored Milwaukee 15-2 to lead 23-10. Mulligan had five points in the run, which he started with a 3-pointer with 15:19 left.

Milwaukee won the only other meeting between the two teams, 81-77 on January 17, 1973. That game was also played at the U.S. Cellular Arena, which was then called MECCA.
