Drexel 75, Towson 51
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Tim Whitworth scored 20 of his game-high 23 points in the first half to lead Drexel to a 75-51 victory over Towson on Saturday.
Phil Goss contributed 13 points for the Dragons (17-8, 12-4 Colonial Athletic Association), who have won eight of their last nine games. Whitworth scored eight of his 23 points during a 17-2 run to begin the game. His 3-pointer opened the scoring and gave Drexel a lead it would not relinquish.
Trevan Jackson scored 16 points to lead the Tigers (6-19, 3-13). Lawrence Hamm added 12 points for Towson, which has lost 10 straight games.
Leading 19-10 midway through the opening half, the Dragons scored 14 unanswered points to open a 33-10 cushion. The margin grew to 25 at 39-14 on a pair of free throws by Whitworth with 3:30 left before the break.
Drexel shot 65 percent from the field in the opening half, while the Tigers connected on just 15 percent of their shots.
Whitworth also hit a 3-pointer to start the second half and give Drexel a 49-17 lead. The lead grew as high as 44 points, 67-23, with just over 11 minutes remaining.
