William & Mary 74, Towson 68
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP)—Adam Hess scored 21 points and Corey Cofield had 18 and 11 rebounds Wednesday night as William & Mary went ahead early and beat Towson 74-68.
The Tribe (7-18, 4-12 Colonial Athletic Association) led 31-22 at the break and by as many as 18 in the second half until Towson made a run late in the game.
The Tigers (6-18, 3-12) used a 16-4 run in a span of less than four minutes to get within 66-60 with 2:08 left, but Hess hit two free throws and Nick D’Antonio hit one for the Tribe. The Tigers got no closer than five the rest of the way.
Cofield also had four assists. Hess had seven rebounds. William & Mary outscored the visitors 23-9 from the free-throw line; Towson was 9-for-18.
Mike Green led Towson with 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, and Jamaal Gilchrist scored 13. The Tigers were outrebounded 39-27 and had eight shots blocked.
