Kent State 86, Marshall 65
KENT, Ohio (AP)—John Edwards scored 18 points and Jason Edwin hit a jumper in the second half that started a 17-0 run in Kent State’s 86-65 victory over Marshall Wednesday night.
Edwards made 8-of-12 shots and had 10 rebounds for the Golden Flashes (19-3, 13-1 Mid-American Conference).
Kent State led by as many as 13 points in the first half. But Marshall (9-13, 6-8) opened the second half by hitting three 3-pointers to pull to within 45-42.
Edwin’s shot started the run with 17:08 left. Clif Brown finished the run with a layup with 11:39 to go that put the Golden Flashes ahead 62-42. Marshall got no closer than 13 the rest of the game.
Marvin Black stopped the run with a layup for two of his team high 17 points.
Kent State shot 49 percent from the floor for the game (33-of-67), compared to 35 percent for Marshall (20-of-58).
DeAndre Haynes scored 11 points for Kent State. Edwin and Scott Cutley scored 10 apiece.
A.W. Hamilton scored 15 points for Marshall. LaVar Carter scored 10.
