San Jose St. 56, Louisiana Tech 53
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—Maurice Moore hit a 3-pointer and Bim Okunrinboye sank two free throws in the final 30 seconds as San Jose State beat Louisiana Tech 56-53 in overtime Saturday.
Moore’s 3-pointer broke a 51-51 tie with 27.5 seconds left in the extra period. After Corey Dean scored for Louisiana Tech to make it 54-53, Okunrinboye’s free throws with 10 seconds remaining sealed the victory for the Spartans (6-16, 1-11 Western Athletic Conference), who snapped a 13-game losing streak.
Marquin Chandler led San Jose State with 14 points, including 10 in the second half. Okunrinboye and Eric Walton each scored 11 for the Spartans.
Wayne Powell scored a game-high 16 points for Louisiana Tech (12-11, 6-7), while Dean scored 12.
San Jose State lost an 11-point second-half lead but still had a chance to win at the end of regulation. But with two seconds remaining and the score tied 43-43, Demetrius Brown missed two foul shots, sending the game to overtime.
Dean scored the first five points of overtime for a 48-43 lead for Louisiana Tech, but the Spartans tied the game at 51 on a jumper by Chandler with 1:21 to play, setting up the late heroics by Moore and Okunrinboye.
Paul Millsap, Louisiana Tech’s leading scorer, got into early foul trouble and played just nine minutes in the first half. For the game, he was held to only six points, although he did lead the Bulldogs with 10 rebounds.
Louisiana Tech led 19-18 after a desultory first half in which the Bulldogs shot just 24 percent from the field and San Jose State 29 percent.
