MACOMB, Ill. (AP)—Michael Watson scored 26 points as UMKC beat Western Illinois 74-52 Thursday night.
With the score tied at 16 with 11:10 left, UMKC (12-10, 7-4 Mid-Con) went on a 19-0 run and took a commanding 38-20 lead at the half. Western closed to 43-31 early in the second half, but UMKC went on a 16-3 run to put Western Illinois (3-21, 1-11) away.
The Kangaroos were 10 of 26 from the 3-point line and 28 of 55 from the field while Western Illinois was 20 of 46 from the field.
The Kangaroos took advantage of 24 turnovers by Western Illinois and turned that into 34 points. UMKC got help from Brandon Lipsey with 12 points while Brandon Temple and Carlton Aaron each added 11.
The Leathernecks were led by Bobby Carter with 15 points.
