Marshall 75, E. Michigan 68
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP)—Marshall snapped a four game skid Wednesday night with a 75-68 win over Eastern Michigan.
Marvin Black topped four Thundering Herd double-figure scorers with 16 points. A.W. Hamilton added 13 points for Marshall (8-12, 5-7 Mid-American Conference).
The Marshall bench was called for a technical foul while arguing a call with 2:10 left in the game, and Eastern Michigan connected on four free throws to pull to within 66-64.
That would be as close as Eastern Michigan would get, however, as Hamilton knocked down a 3-pointer following a Black free throw to give Marshall a 70-64 lead with 1:00 remaining.
Markus Austin kept the Eagles (9-11, 4-8 MAC) close in the second half by scoring 12 of his game-high 26 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
The Eagles led the first 10 minutes of the opening half before Eric Smith sparked a 21-5 Marshall run to put the Thundering Herd ahead 35-25 with 2:23 to play.
Eastern Michigan won three of its last four games before the loss to Marshall.
Marshall’s tallest player, 6-foot-10 Ardo Armpalu, sat out after spraining his ankle during practice on Monday.<
