La Salle 71, Duquesne 55

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Gary Neal had 21 points and Steve Smith added 16 points and nine rebounds to lead La Salle to a 71-55 victory over Duquesne on Wednesday.

Elijah Palmer had 14 points for Duquesne (9-12, 4-6 Atlantic 10) and Bryant McAllister added 11. The Dukes turned the ball over 18 times and La Salle (9-13, 4-5) turned those turnovers into 19 points.

La Salle, coming off an 89-63 loss to No. 3 Saint Joseph’s on Saturday, has won just twice in its last eight games. Duquesne has lost four of its last five.

The game was tied early at 4-4 before La Salle took the lead and held it until Duquesne’s Jon Pawlak scored on a putback of a miss by Martin Osimani, tying the game 44-44 with just under 11 minutes remaining.

Neal answered Pawlak’s shot with a 3-pointer and the Explorers outscored the Dukes, 27-11, to end the game.

Jermaine Thomas had eight points, including two 3-pointers, to keep La Salle ahead at halftime, 30-25. He finished with 11 points.
