W. Michigan 88, Bowling Green 73
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP)—Western Michigan got 25 points from Mike Williams and won its 15th consecutive home game, an 88-73 victory over Bowling Green on Saturday.
Anthony Kann added 20 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the Broncos (17-2, 10-1 Mid-American), who never trailed and led by as many as 24 points.
Ron Lewis led the Falcons (9-12, 5-6) with 26 points, including 21 in the second half. Kevin Netter added 17 points for Bowling Green and John Reimold 12.
Western held Bowling Green to one basket in the final seven minutes of the first half and had a 42-24 lead at the break. The Falcons cut their deficit to nine points, 75-66, with 3:59 left, but an eight-point run by the Broncos snuffed the rally.
Western’s Steve Hawkins tied Herbert Read’s 81-year-old school record for victories by a first-year coach.
Bowling Green point guard Steven Wright did not play after being suspended indefinitely by Falcons coach Dan Dakich for an undisclosed team violation.
