Delaware 80, Towson 76 OT
NEWARK, Del. (AP)—Mike Ames forced overtime with a three-pointer with two seconds left in regulation, and Delaware hit four free throws in the extra session’s closing seconds to beat Towson 80-76 on Saturday.
The loss is the sixth straight for Towson (6-15, 3-9 Colonial Athletic Association).
Robin Wentt hit 16 points for Delaware (13-8, 7-5). He also had a career-high 18 rebounds, the most by a Delaware player since Greg Smith’s 21 in 1997.
Ames had 16 points for Delaware, while Mike Slattery, David Lunn, and Rulon Washington all had 10 points. Washington also pulled down 10 rebounds.
Towson had four players in double figures, with Jamaal Gilchrist leading the way with 17 points. Three Towson players fouled out, and the Tigers committed 28 turnovers.
The Blue Hens hit just 60 percent (27 of 45) from the free throw line. But in overtime, Lunn hit two free throws with 28 seconds left to give Delaware a 78-76 lead. Slattery then sealed the victory, hitting two free throws with six seconds left.
