NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP)—DeShaun Williams scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half and Greg Jenkins set a regular-season school record with nine blocks as Iona beat Manhattan 79-62 Sunday, snapping the Jaspers’ eight-game winning streak.

Anthony Bruin added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Steve Burtt had 13 points for the Gaels (6-12, 4-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), who had lost seven of their previous nine games.

Luis Flores scored 16 points and Dave Holmes had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Jaspers (13-4, 8-1), who lost their seventh straight game at Iona’s Mulcahy Center.

The Gaels, who shot 46.6 percent from the field, held Manhattan to 28.9 percent shooting for the game.

The Jaspers jumped to a 7-1 lead, but Bruin, who had 11 points and seven rebounds in the first half, led the comeback. The Gaels closed with a 9-3 run, capped by a basket by Burtt, to take a 41-36 halftime lead.

Two free throws by Flores gave Manhattan a 45-44 lead with 15:38 left, but Bruin made two free throws 7 seconds later to give Iona the lead for good.

Ricky Soliver added 11 points and Jenkins had eight points for the Gaels.
