Dayton 77, La Salle 75
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Ramod Marshall scored 24 points and Sean Finn added 18 to lead Dayton over La Salle 77-75 Saturday.
Keith Waleskowski had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Dayton (16-3, 6-0 Atlantic 10), which won its seventh straight game. Gary Neal had 30 points, 24 in the second half, for the Explorers (7-11, 2-3).
The Flyers took their biggest lead of the game, 43-28, two minutes into the second half. But La Salle went on a 23-5 run, with 12 of the points coming from Neal. The Explorers took a 51-48 lead on Neal’s 3-point play with 12:21 remaining.
Dayton responded with a 22-7 spurt sparked by three 3-pointers by Marshall, and moved ahead 70-58 at the 5:53 mark. But once again, La Salle responded, and closed to 74-72 on a layup by Steve Smith with 35 seconds to go.
After Mike Cleaves made one free throw for the Explorers, Waleskowski made two foul shots with 18 seconds left, and Mark Jones made another free throw with 6.3 seconds remaining to seal the victory. Neal made an uncontested field goal for La Salle as time expired.
The Flyers hit on their first seven shots of the game, four by Finn, in jumping out to a 16-2 lead. La Salle rallied to within 23-14, and narrowed the gap to 35-28 on a 3-pointer by Smith, but Marshall hit a long 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer to give Dayton a 38-28 advantage.
