Memphis 85, Tulane 71
NEW ORLEANS (AP)—Sean Banks scored 19 points to lead Memphis to an 85-71 Conference USA victory over Tulane Tuesday night.
Antonio Burks added 16 points and dished out six assists for Memphis (11-4, 2-2 C-USA). Rodney Carney had 15 points and Anthony Rice had 13. Duane Erwin pulled down 15 rebounds.
Quincy Davis lead Tulane (6-8, 0-4 C-USA) with 21 points, while Marcus Kinzer added 11 and five assists. Wayne Tinsley had a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Tulane trailed by as many as 17 in the first half, but a 22-6 run in the second half pulled the Green Wave within one. A baseline 3-pointer from Dan Fitzgerald with 16:20 to go in the game capped the run, with the Wave trailing 44-43.
Memphis recovered with three free throws from Banks, but a pair of Davis free throws made it 47-45 with 15:54 on the clock.
But the Tigers’ Rodney Carney scored nine points to spark an 18-3 Memphis burst which put the Tigers on top 65-48 with 11:01 remaining.
