Marshall 86, Buffalo 74
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP)—Marvin Black had 22 points and 12 rebounds off the bench to lead Marshall to a 86-74 victory over Buffalo on Saturday night.
Black played for the first time since bruising his sternum in the first half of a loss at Western Michigan on Monday.
A.W. Hamilton scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half to help snap Marshall’s three-game losing streak. Mark Patton added 14 points for the Thundering Herd (6-7, 2-3 Mid-American).
Freshman Yassin Idbihi scored 17 points to lead Buffalo (5-9, 1-5), which lost its sixth straight game. Turner Battle added 15 points and 10 rebounds while Mario Jordan had 15 points.
Buffalo opened the second half with five straight points to cut the deficit to 41-36.
Marshall led by as much as 64-49, but Buffalo charged back with a 11-3 run to close within 67-60 with 8:01 to play. The Bulls got no closer.
Marshall freshman Tre Whitted, who finished with 11 points, hit three 3-pointers to spark a 26-3 first-half run for a 35-17 lead. Buffalo outscored Marshall 14-6 over the final five minutes of the half to close the gap to 41-31 at halftime.
Marshall made 7 of 14 3-pointers for the game.
