Alabama A&M 65, Alabama St. 58
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)—Obie Trotter scored 22 points, including four in the final minute to help Alabama A&M hold off Alabama State 65-58 on Saturday night.
Terry Horton added 16 points and Lorenzo Burks had 10 for the Bulldogs (4-9, 2-3 Southwestern Athletic Conference).
Ralfeal Golden scored 17 points to lead Alabama State (3-10, 1-4).
A&M led 31-24 at halftime, but the Hornets pulled within one point on three occasions in the second half.
The last time came with 2:31 left in the game, when Malcolm Campbell hit a pair of free throws to cut A&M’s lead to 58-57. They were the only points of the game for Campbell, the Hornets’ leading scorer at 11.4 per game.
Rickey Ricketts followed with a 3-pointer to give the Bulldogs a four-point cushion at the 1:57 mark. Trotter hit a bucket with 26 seconds left to play, then iced the game with a two foul shots with six seconds left.
Ricketts finished with six points. Xavier Oliver had nine points and 11 rebounds for Alabama State.
