Samford 61, Murray St. 58
MURRAY, Ky. (AP)—Tyson Dorsey scored 20 points as Samford held off a late rally by Murray State for a 61-58 win Thursday night.
Robert Merritt added 15 for the Bulldogs (7-7, 2-1 Ohio Valley Conference).
Kelvin Brown paced Murray (12-3, 2-1) with 17 points, Adam Chiles added 14 and Antione Whelchel 11.
Dorsey was 5-of-5 from the field, all from 3-point range, and finished 5-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Samford took a 44-28 lead with 12 minutes to play but only scored five points during the next eight minutes.
Racer guard Chris Shumate sank a 3-pointer with two minutes to play to cut Samford’s lead to 54-49. On the ensuing play, Brown forced a turnover and scored to make it 54-51.
Merritt extended the lead to 56-51 with less than a minute to play, and in the final 60 seconds the Bulldogs went 5-of-6 from the line to preserve the win.
