S. Illinois 81, Evansville 63
CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP)—Sylvester Willis scored 15 points as Southern Illinois beat Evansville 81-63 Wednesday night.
Southern Illinois (11-2, 5-0 Missouri Valley Conference) led 38-36 at the half, but pulled away in the second half when they went on a 10-0 run which included 3-pointers by Bryan Turner and Darren Brooks.
Evansville had a better shooting percentage converting 23-of-46 from the field while the Salukis were 34-of-71. But Southern Illinois outrebounded Evansville 16-5 on the offensive end which proved to be the difference.
The Salukis got help from Brooks with 14 points and seven rebounds. Jamal Tatum had 10 points and Brad Korn and Turner each scored nine.
Evansville (2-11, 1-4) was led by Andre Burton with 24 points and Clint Cuffle added 16. Burton was 9-of-13 from the field and 3-of-4 from the 3-point line.
