Towson 70, Delaware 68
TOWSON, Md. (AP)—Jamaal Gilchrist scored the game-winning basket on a driving layup with 4.4 seconds left to lead Towson to a 70-68 win over Delaware on Saturday night.
Gilchrist, who scored five of his 15 points in the final 39 seconds, gave the Tigers (4-8, 1-2) the win that ended their 15-game losing streak in Colonial Athletic Association regular-season games.
With the score tied at 68, Gilchrist drove the left side of the lane and scored on a layup to give the Tigers a 70-68 lead.
The Blue Hens (7-5, 1-2) missed a chance to pull out the win when Chris Prothro missed a 3-point basket at the buzzer.
The Tigers, who rallied from an early 11-4 deficit, led 31-27 at halftime.
After Delaware tied the game at 31 with less than two minutes into the second half, Towson took a 45-35 lead on a 14-4 run with 13:20 left in the game.
Mike Slattery, who led the Blue Hens with 20 points, scored 14 points during a six-minute stretch to help pull Delaware to within 63-58 with 2:38 remaining in the game.
Mike Ames made a 3-pointer for Delaware to take a 66-65 lead with 53 seconds to play.
The Tigers regained the lead with 39 seconds left when Gilchrist hit an off-balance shot. He was fouled and made the free throw to give Towson a 68-66 lead.
The Blue Hens pulled even with 29 seconds left on a jumper by Harding Nana, who finished with 13 points.
Lawrence Hamm led the Tigers in scoring with 17 points. Mike Green and Andrius Petkunas added 12 points each.
