Seton Hall 86, La Salle 74
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Andre Barrett had 25 points and 10 assists for his second double-double in as many games to lead Seton Hall to a 86-74 win over La Salle on Saturday.
Kelly Whitney also had a career-high 25 points and John Allen added 18 for the Pirates (10-2), who won their seventh straight game.
Gary Neal had 19 points on just 5-for-18 shooting, while Mike St. John had a season-high 15 for the Explorers (5-7).
After a tightly-contested first half, the Pirates opened the second half with 3-pointers from Barrett, Allen and Marcus Toney-El during an 18-6 run that put them ahead 53-38.
The Explorers stayed close, hitting 14 of 16 free-throw attempts in the second half to pull within three with 7:23 to play.
But Seton Hall sealed the victory by outscoring the Explorers 21-12 in the final 6:45. The run was highlighted by a reverse layup from Barrett and a pair of fast-break dunks by Whitney.
The Pirates outrebounded the Explorers 43-35 and are now 8-0 when outrebounding their opponents this season. Whitney, Toney-El and Andre Sweet led Seton Hall with nine rebounds each.
Allen and Barrett both hit three 3-pointers and tallied 11 points in a first half that featured four ties and nine lead changes, the last of which came on Barrett’s 3 with 57 seconds left in the half that gave the Pirates the lead for good.
The Pirates closed out their nonconference schedule by equaling their best start since the 2000-01 season. They open their Big East season Saturday against St. John’s.
