Jackson St. 86, Alabama A&M 79
JACKSON, Miss. (AP)—Ishmael Joyce scored 29 points—including five 3-pointers—as Jackson State beat Alabama A&M 86-79 victory Saturday night.
Jackson State (3-7, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ended a four-game losing streak by fighting off several Alabama A&M rallies throughout the game.
Obie Trotter and Terry Horton led Alabama A&M (2-6, 0-1) with 22 and 21 points, respectively.
The Tigers jumped out to a 24-13 lead midway through the first half, but Alabama A&M responded by outscoring Jackson State 11-2 during the next five minutes to pull to 26-24.
The Bulldogs later rallied to 32-31 with 4:06 remaining in the half.
But Joyce scored six points during a 14-0 run as Jackson State stretched its lead to 46-31.
The Tigers led 46-36 at the half.
Alabama A&M regrouped and tied the game 60-60 on a layup from Terry Horton with 7:36 left.
But a 3-point shot by Joyce started an 11-0 run that stretched the lead back to 71-60 with 4:50 remaining in the game.
K.C. Cavette added 19 points and Rashad Taylor had 12 for Jackson State.
The Tigers shot 46 percent and outrebounded Alabama A&M 41-32.
