Manhattan 70, Richmond 62

NEW YORK (AP)—Luis Flores scored 25 points to help Manhattan beat Richmond 70-62 Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

The game was the second in a doubleheader and followed No. 3 Duke’s 89-61 victory over No. 11 Texas.

Flores’ fastbreak layup gave the Jaspers (4-2) a 54-43 lead with 9:39 to play. Richmond (5-4) then went on a 13-2 run that was capped by three free throws by Mike Skrocki with 3:30 to play.

Manhattan answered with a 13-2 run of its own to take control and Flores, who came into the game averaging 22.6 points, had six points in the run, four from the free throw line. His two free throws with 27 seconds left gave the Jaspers a 69-58 lead with 27 seconds.

Flores was 8-for-11 from the field and 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Peter Mulligan had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Jaspers, who finished with a 32-24 advantage on the boards.

Tony Dobbins had 15 points for the Spiders, while Skrocki added 11.

Both teams shot well with Manhattan hitting 48.1 percent (25-for-52), while the Spiders made 53.2 percent (25-for-47).
