Middle Tennessee St. 67, Alabama St. 62
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP)—Tommy Gunn scored 16 points and Mike Dean added 14 to lead Middle Tennessee State over Alabama State 67-62 Wednesday night.
The game was tied 29-29 at the half, but Alabama State (2-3) took the lead after Kevin Spicer stole the ball from Gunn and hit a 3-pointer.
The Blue Raiders (3-2) answered with a pair of 3-pointers by Gunn and back-to-back layups by Darrio Scott and Bryan Smithson, giving Middle Tennessee State a 10-point advantage with 2:35 remaining.
Ralfeal Golden’s 3-pointer cut the lead, but the Hornets never caught up.
Golden led Alabama State with 18 points. Malcolm Campbell scored 14 and Derrick Russell added 11.
The Blue Raiders dominated the boards 33-28 and hit 48 percent of their shots, while holding Alabama State to 40 percent shooting.
