DAYTON, Ohio (AP)—Darren Brooks scored 20 points and contributed to a 9-2 run that helped Southern Illinois beat Wright State 79-73 Monday night.
The surge just before halftime gave the Salukis (6-0) a 39-33 lead at the break, and the team’s lead never dipped below four points in the second half.
LaMar Owen started the run with a layup, Brooks hit a 3-pointer, Brad Korn made a pair of free throws and Josh Warren hit a jumper in a little less than four minutes.
There were 10 lead changes before the run that put Southern Illinois ahead for good.
The Raiders (1-5) trimmed a 63-47 deficit to 75-71 with 31 seconds left, but the Salukis held on by making four of seven free throws down the stretch.
Korn added 17 points for Southern Illinois.
Seth Doliboa led Wright State with 22 points, and Vernard Hollins and Zakee Boyd had 14 apiece.
