TOWSON, Md. (AP)—Sophomore forward John Zito scored a game-high 20 points to lead the University of Maryland Baltimore County to a 64-56 victory over Towson University Saturday night.

There were four ties and five lead changes before UMBC (3-3) put together the 16-4 run that gave them a 25-15 lead with 7:37 left in the half. The Retrievers stretched the lead to 14 before Towson’s Mike Green sank a three-point basket with four seconds remaining in the half, giving UMBC a 36-25 advantage at the break.

UMBC maintained a double-digit lead throughout most of the second half. Towson (2-5) was able to trim the Retriever lead to six, 56-62, with 24 seconds remaining, but free throws by Zito and McJimson helped keep the Tigers at bay. Zito’s 20 points were a game high.
