MURRAY, Ky. (AP)—Cuthbert Victor sparked two runs for Murray State and scored a career-high 35 points as the Racers defeated Chicago State 100-80 Saturday night in the Pittsburgh Holiday Classic.
The lead changed five times before Murray State (7-0) returned from 43-43 halftime tie to dominate the second half. Victor had scored nine points while on a 14-1 run starting at 15:24. With about 8 minutes left, he set off a 16-2 run in which Antione Whelchel scored 8 points, including two 3-pointers.
Chris Shumate hit a 3-pointer with 3:19 to go in the first half, giving the Racers a 39-32 lead.
Chicago State (6-1) answered with a 7-0 run, starting with a Tony Weeden layup and concluding when Royce Parran converted a three-point play from the foul line. The run tied the game at 39-39.
Parran tied the game with his basket about 55 seconds remaining in the half for the Cougars.
Victor shot 13-of-16 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
Whelchel added 18 points, and Shawn Witherspoon had 15 points for the Racers.
Weeden led Chicago State with 35 points. Rubeen Perry had 13 points and Parran added 12.
