Alabama A&M 78, Tennessee St. 77
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Rickey Ricketts scored 20 points and Chris Collins hit a layup as time expired to give Alabama A&M a 78-77 win over Tennessee State on Friday night.
Obie Trotter added 16 points and four assists for the Bulldogs (2-3). Otis Walker had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Bruce Price had 23 points and eight assists to lead Tennessee State (1-6). Roshaun Bowens added 18 points and reserve Jeremy Jackson scored 15 on five 3-pointers.
Trailing by one, the Bulldogs missed a shot with nine seconds left and Tennessee State grabbed the rebound. The Tigers called a timeout with 1.3 seconds remaining, but Bowens was whistled for an offensive foul as TSU tried to inbound the ball.
The Bulldogs set up a play to Collins, who powered over a defender for the game winner.
Tennessee State led by as many as 14 in the first half. But late in the half, A&M switched to a half-court trap. The move paid off, as the Bulldogs took a 39-38 lead at the break.
A&M built an eight-point lead in the second half, but Tennessee State chipped away and took the lead with 4:17 to play on a layup by Cedric Bryson. The Tigers led by five with 2:58 to play, but the Bulldogs crept within one to set up Collins’ heroics.
