KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Michael Watson scored a season-high 37 points to lead Missouri-Kansas City to a 72-68 win against Denver on Wednesday night.

UMKC (3-3) needed a 3-pointer from Brandon Lipsey with 46 seconds remaining to retake the lead from Denver, moving ahead 69-68. A pair of free throws from Brandon Temple and one from Watson in the closing seconds sealed the win.

Watson scored 28 of his 37 points in the second half. He went 15-of-23 from the field, and was 5-of-7 from 3-point range. Lipsey finished with a career-high 17 points, and went 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

The loss broke a three-game winning streak for the Pioneers (3-3). Erik Benzel led Denver with 21 points, all coming on 3-pointers. Zeljko Zupic added 14 for Denver and Brett Starkey had 11. Rodney Billups added a game-high 11 assists.

Zupic had 12 rebounds, as Denver outrebounded the Kangaroos 43-29.
