Manhattan 72, Rider 54

NEW YORK (AP)—Luis Flores scored 20 points and keyed a second-half pullaway to lift Manhattan to a 72-54 win over Rider on Sunday.

Jason Wingate added 15 points and Dave Holmes 13 for the Jaspers (3-1, 1-0 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference).

Edwin Muniz had 12 points and Steve Castleberry 11 for the visiting Broncs (4-2, 1-1 MAAC).

Flores scored 13 points in a first half that had 11 lead changes, including a 3-point, midcourt heave at the buzzer that gave Manhattan a 33-32 edge.

Flores hit another 3-pointer to start the second half, igniting a 14-2 run that put the Jaspers up 47-34 with 13:46 to go. Muniz hit a 3-pointer to make it 47-39 but the Broncs came no closer.

Manhattan led by as much as 68-47 after Peter Mulligan scored with 2:32 left. Mulligan and Mike Konovelchick had 10 points for the Jaspers.

Jerry Johnson, averaging a team-best 18.2 points for Rider, scored just 10 points, all in the first half.
