Fordham 72, Fairfield 69, OT
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Mark Jarrell-Wright had 23 points and 11 rebounds as Fordham snapped a 19-game losing streak in a 72-69 come-from-behind win over Fairfield in overtime Tuesday night.
Fordham (1-3) scored nine of the first 12 points of overtime to take a 68-62 lead.
Fairfield (2-1) got back to within 70-69. But after a pair of Fordham free throws by Michael Haynes (15 points), the Stags missed a pair of 3-point attempts to tie the game.
It was the first win at Fordham for coach Dereck Whittenburg, who led Wagner to the NCAA Tournament last season.
John Blackgrove added 21 points for the Rams, who trailed 39-27 with 17 minutes to play.
Fairfield was led by Deng Gai, who had 21 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks. Terrence Todd added 18 points and Rob Thomson scored 11.
The Stags converted just one field goal during a span of eight minutes in the second half. But after falling behind 59-56, they tied it with a 3-pointer by Michael Bell with six seconds remaining in regulation.
