JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Carl Brown scored 21 points and Trent Eager finished with 19 points to lead Jacksonville State to a 71-63 win over Jackson State Monday night.

James Denson came off the bench to finish with 14 points for the Gamecocks (3-2).

The Gamecocks used an 18-6 run over the final eight minutes of the first half to build a 34-24 lead at halftime.

Jackson State (1-2) opened the second half on a 14-3 run to take a 39-37 on a baseline jumper by C.C. Cavette with 16:37 left in the game.

The Gamecocks held a slim 60-59 advantage with 3:49 left, but went on an 11-2 lead over the next three minutes to push the lead back to 10 points, 71-61, with 32 seconds left in the game.

Jacksonville State outrebounded the Tigers 38-29.

Cavette lead the Tigers with 17 points and Ishmael Joyce added 15.
