KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Michael Watson scored 19 points to lead Missouri-Kansas City to an 80-56 victory over Norfolk State on Saturday night.
Carlton Aaron added a double-double for the Kangaroos (1-1) with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Javon Clark had 11 points and Mike English finished with 10.
Missouri-Kansas City struggled to score early and trailed the Spartans 11-7 with just over 8 1/2 minutes left in the first half. But two 3-pointers by Clark ignited a 26-6 run by the Kangaroos, who led 33-17 at halftime and never let Norfolk State (0-3) get closer than 18 points after the break.
The Kangaroos held the Spartans to 38 percent (16-of-42) field-goal shooting and forced them into 32 turnovers—the most ever by an opponent. The previous record was 31 by Northeastern Illinois on March 1, 1992.
Karandick Ogunride and Chakowby Hicks scored 12 points each for Norfolk State, which lost despite outrebounding the Kangaroos 40-27. Hicks led the Spartans with 14 rebounds.
