Texas A&M 100, Alabama A&M 65
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP)—Jesse King scored 23 points and made eight rebounds as Texas A&M beat Alabama A&M 100-65 on Wednesday night.
King, whose previous high was 17 points, led the Aggies (2-0) in both points and rebounds for the second straight game. Antoine Wright, the Aggies leading returning scorer, posted 14 points.
Alabama A&M (0-2) was led by Terry Horton with 15 points.
Texas A&M jumped out to a 51-36 halftime lead behind an early 10 points by Wright. But early in the second half, the Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to nine.
Sparked by seven quick points by Marcus Watkins, the Aggies had a 14-0 run over a four-minute period to take an 80-57 lead with nine minutes remaining. Watkins finished with a career high 13 points.
Alabama A&M scored just one field goal and 6 free throws in the final 13 minutes of play as the Aggies outscored them 32-8 down the stretch.
Texas A&M’s Acie Law left the game early in the first half with an ankle injury. Law, who had four points in nine minutes, is one of two newcomer point guards for the Aggies.
It was just the third time the Aggies have broken the century mark in scoring since Melvin Watkins took the coaching job in 1998.
