San Jose State 87, UC Santa Cruz 41
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—Demetrius Brown scored 17 points as San Jose State defeated UC Santa Cruz 87-41 to hand the Banana Slugs their third straight defeat on Tuesday night.
Eric Walton added 12 points and 13 rebounds to record his first double-double as the Spartans won their first game of the season.
San Jose (1-1) out rebounded UC Santa Cruz (0-3) 49-23 to control the game.
The Spartans used a run of 17-3 in the first half and a 15-12 in the second to completely dominate the smaller Slugs.
The lone bright spots for the Slugs were Matt Robles and Minas Be-Emnet, who lead the Banana Slugs with 14 points.
Also scoring in double figures for San Jose State were Aaron Watson with 14 and Brett Lilly with 12.
San Jose State led UC Santa Cruz, 43-24 at halftime. Robles lead all scorers at the half with 12 points.
