JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP)—Trent Eager scored a career-high 18 points on 5-of-7 shooting to lead Jacksonville State past Alabama A&M 74-68 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Carl Brown came off the bench to score 14 for the Gamecocks. Abdou Diame added 10 points and two blocks.

Otis Walker and Obie Trotter scored 13 points apiece for Alabama A&M. Rickey Ricketts added 11, but the trio combined to hit just 14 of 44 shots.

The Gamecocks trailed 36-35 at halftime but hit 10 of their first 12 shots in the second half to build a 58-44 lead. After the Bulldogs went on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 67-64 with 2:03 left, the Gamecocks hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the win.

Each team committed 18 turnovers, but Jacksonville State outshot A&M 51.1 percent to 35.2 percent.
