George Mason 57, Drexel 55
PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Jesse Young tipped in a rebound as time expired to lift George Mason to a 57-55 victory over Drexel on Saturday.
Young’s layup had tied the game for the Patriots (16-11, 11-7 Colonial Athletic Association) with 45 seconds remaining.
Jon Larranaga led George Mason with a game-high 20 points, while Mark Davis added 14. It was the 100th victory at George Mason for coach Jim Larranaga.
Phil Goss led Drexel (17-10, 12-6) with 16 points and shot 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Tim Whitworth scored 12 points for the Dragons and Robert Battle added 11 points and five blocks in his final home game as a senior.
Drexel opened the second half with a 10-2 run to take a 34-32 lead with 16:07 remaining. The Dragons led by as many as six in the second half after a Whitworth free throw gave Drexel a 49-43 lead with 4:41 remaining.
Larranaga scored on a layup with five seconds left in the first half to give George Mason a 30-22 halftime lead. George Mason used an 8-0 run to take a 21-16 lead with 5:34 remaining in the first half.
