Fairfield 73, St. Peter’s 71
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP)—Deng Gai’s slam dunk and subsequent free throw with 5.2 seconds left in the game gave Fairfield a 73-71 victory over St. Peter’s on Wednesday.
Fairfield (16-10, 12-5 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) trailed 71-70 when Gai took a feed from Terrence Todd and slammed in the winning shot.
St. Peter’s (9-17, 6-11) had taken the lead with 13 seconds to go on a basket by Keydren Clark, who led the Peacocks with 30 points.
St. Peter’s had one last chance for the win after Gai’s 3-point play when Devin Thompson got the ball under the basket and made the layup, but the referees ruled the shot came after the buzzer.
Gai finished with 18 points and eight blocked shots.
Thompson had 14 points and 12 rebounds for St. Peter’s.
