Butler 66, Detroit 63

DETROIT (AP)—Joel Cornette scored 15 points and snagged 11 rebounds and Duane Lightfoot made four free throws in the final 11 seconds as Butler defeated Detroit 66-63 on Saturday.

Willie Green missed a three-point shot at the buzzer that would have forced overtime for the Titans (13-11, 7-6 Horizon League). Green led all scorers with 23 points and had a team-high eight rebounds, and Elijah Warren added 14 points.

The Bulldogs (19-4, 9-2) trailed by as many as eight points midway through the first half before freshman Avery Sheets made three 3-pointers over the final 2:47 to give Butler a 37-33 lead at the break.

Butler never led by more than six in the second half, and Detroit went ahead 60-59 on a free throw by Warren with 2:59 remaining. The Bulldogs’ Brandon Miller sank a 3-pointer 30 seconds later, and Butler never trailed again.

Sheets finished with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Lightfoot had 14 points.
