RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—Emanuel Mathis scored a career-high 26 points Saturday, hitting 6 of 7 three-pointers and 7 of 10 from the field, to lead Virginia Commonwealth past George Mason 78-62.
Virginia Commonwealth (13-7, 8-4 Colonial Athletic Association) led by five at the half, but pulled away in the last 3:56 with a 14-5 run in which Michael Doles scored 9 of his 13 points for the Rams.
George Mason (12-9, 7-5) was led by Richard Tynes, who had 13 points and hit 6 of 10 from the field. Jon Larranga added 11 points for the Patriots.
Mathis was 6 for 6 from the free-throw line. Willie Taylor scored 20 points and shot 8 of 12 from the field.
