THIBODAUX, La. (AP)—Robert Shannon scored 17 points to lead Sam Houston to a 76-65 victory over Nicholls State Saturday.

Shannon was 5-of-11 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line for Sam Houston (15-5, 11-2 Southland). Mario Kinsey had 14 points and Donald Cole added 13.

Anthony Wilcher led Nicholls (3-19, 1-13) with 15 points. He was 6-of-12 from the field, 3-of-4 from the line and 0-of-2 from the 3-point range.

At the break, Nicholls led 39-34. In the first half, Nicholls hit 44.8 percent of its shots from the field and Sam Houston made 35.5 percent.

For the game, Sam Houston was 24-of-55 from the field, 7-of-21 from the 3-point mark and 21-of-32 from the line.

Nicholls ended the game making 22-of-55 of its shot from the field, 4-of-14 from the 3-point range and 17-of-19 from the line.

Jay Oliphant led Sam Houston in rebounds with seven. The team had 32 for the game.

Nicholls got 38 rebounds and Earnest Porter brought in seven balls.
