Illinois State 89, Bradley 74
NORMAL, Ill. (AP)—Gregg Alexander scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds Saturday as Illinois State won its second straight following a nine-game losing streak by beating Bradley 89-74 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Redbirds (3-15, 2-8) pulled away in the second half after leading 38-37 at the half. Illinois State made 15 of its 26 field goal attempts for 58 percent shooting in the second half and held Bradley to 38 percent from the field.
Vince Greene added 15 points and Trey Guidry and Brett Gillan had 13 points each for Illinois State.
Bradley (7-13, 3-6) got a stellar performance from James Gillingham, who scored 25 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished off eight assists.
Phillip Gilbert scored 17 points for the Braves and Marcello Robinson chipped in with 15.
Alexander hit on 8-of-16 shots from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range in his first career double-double for Illinois State.
Illinois State started the second half with a 14-4 run and took control of the game, opening up a commanding lead when Bradley missed 18 of its first 25 shots.
The Redbirds won the rebounding 39-28.
